Signs of San Antonio

ALUMINUM

Aluminum is one of the most widely used materials for signs because of its baked-on enamel finish and long life. Made in 4’x8’ or 4’x10’ panels, aluminum can either be cut to smaller sizes, or combined together to make larger sign faces. Aluminum is also available in a variety of thicknesses: the most common – .040” gauge – is most often used for 12”x18” and 18”x24” parking-related and street signs. Due to its flimsiness, any size larger is usually recommended to have its own backing. There is also a .063ga. and an .080ga. thickness, which is the standard thickness for official street signs (i.e. stop, yield, speed limit, etc.). With certain exceptions, we usually now recommend Dibond over aluminum once you get over 4-5 square feet in size, depending on its use.
